Volunteering & Animal Advocacy

I am a voice for the animals that cannot speak.

In 2005, I decided that our small town and the surrounding area needed an animal rescue organization. So I pitched the idea to local animal lovers, and in February 2005, the Hanna S.P.C.A. Pet Rescue & Shelter was born.

We started as completely foster-based, meaning we didn't have a facility. Still, through innovation and determination, I secured us a facility in 2009, right before I left the community.

The rescue is still operating over 17 years later and has changed its name to  Harvest Sky Animal Rescue. I am so proud of our little rescue that could. They have saved the lives of almost 1,000 animals, changed the lives of animal parents and their volunteers, and become part of the town and community.

One of the first photos to appear in our local paper in 2005, alongside an interview I did regarding the Hanna S.P.C.A. This fluffer was up for adoption. I just love his beauty mark.

Volunteering with World Vets has been life-changing for me, animals throughout the world, their owners, global communities and other volunteers.

I had the privilege to volunteer for two high-volume spay/neuter clinics for cats and dogs in Roatan, Honduras and Cusco, Peru in 2017 and 2018. Not only did I get to assist the team in sterilizing almost 600 animals, travel and learn about the local history and culture, but I also met some amazing people. My eyes and heart were open to what a group of dedicated people can accomplish. The communities we worked with were so appreciative as were the animal owners.

I've volunteered with Zoe's Animal Rescue Society for many years, leading adoption and educational outreach events. I also transport animals to and from medical appointments and to their foster homes, pick up donations, and whatever else is needed.

We had a space at the Edmonton Expo and I was part of the public outreach team working the weekend.

Mission Statement

We partner with communities who request guidance, support, and resources to humanely manage their companion animal population, in order to improve the safety of their community and the well-being of the animals.

I have volunteered for multiple spay/neuter clinics that the Canadian Animal Task Force conducts throughout the province. Click to watch a time-lapse video of a clinic I participated in, in Wabasca, AB, in 2021.
